A mother in mourning called a drink-driving woman who killed her son 'wicked and cowardly'.
Karla Dodds, driving with seven people in a small Hyundai i10, was intoxicated beyond the legal drink-drive limit and was going at high speed when she lost control of the vehicle, crashing and causing the death of 22-year-old Truman Hub from North Shields.
Truman had been leaning out of the window to feel the wind in his hair.
As he was fatally injured and his girlfriend performed CPR, Dodds fled the scene with her friend.
Dodds, who is 25 years old, received a 12-year prison sentence.
In a victim impact statement, Truman’s mother, Rozalind Hub, shared her profound grief, stating she feels 'overwhelmed with grief and emotions' following her son’s death.
She recalled that Truman, who had autism and ADHD, was full of sunshine, laughter, mischief, and love, and that his presence could brighten any room.
