PRESTATYN MAN JAILED FOR SEXUALLY ABUSING CHILD AND FRIGHTENING INTO SILENCE
A man from Prestatyn has been sentenced to 11 years’ imprisonment after being found guilty of sexually abusing a child, whom he 'frightened into silence.' Karl Taylor, 49, of Brook Park Avenue, was convicted in July of five counts of child sexual abuse, including assault by penetration, touching, and causing a child to engage in sexual activity.During the sentencing at Mold Crown Court, prosecutor Simon Rogers read statements from the victim and a relative, who described the lasting impact and emotional trauma caused.
The victim stated: "The effects of what happened to me will take years, if not my whole life, to deal with.
I cannot begin to explain the lasting impact this has had on me and my family.
It’s a situation no adult, let alone child, should have to go through.
Thank you to the police, and the court, for giving me the freedom to be a child again." The relative added: "Finding out that the Crown Prosecution Service was going to charge should have felt amazing, but I knew the hard part was yet to come...
Hearing the verdict has lifted the invisible chains we were wearing." Taylor was previously convicted for common assault in 1998.
The judge also ordered Taylor to adhere to a sexual harm prevention order, a restraining order, and registered as a sex offender indefinitely.
Judge Paul Hobson mentioned that Taylor told his victim not to tell, in a manner that scared them into silence, and pointed out that he continued to deny guilt and showed no remorse.
Detective Constable Catrin-Mai Jones of North Wales Police described Taylor’s actions as 'deeply disturbing' with a 'profound' impact on the victim and family, commending their bravery in coming forward and emphasizing the police's commitment to protecting children and pursuing offenders.
