CONMEN BEHIND FAKE MODELLING AGENCY JAILED FOR EXPLOITING WOMEN
Two fraudsters, Oliver Pendleton and Jason Maguire, caused significant emotional harm to multiple women by publicly sharing private images of them online for financial gain. The victims only realized they had been targeted after the scams had taken place.
Jason Maguire, who resides on Caradoc Road in Prestatyn, pleaded guilty to charges of fraud and possessing a computer with the intent to commit unauthorized access.
Additionally, he was accused of violating 11 restraining orders related to sexual harm and faced six charges related to the production of indecent images.
The scheme originated in 2016 when the perpetrators impersonated Gemma Wright, a woman claiming to operate a fake modelling agency named Shining Star.
They contacted women through social media platforms, initially offering to pay for face-only photographs and later requesting increasingly explicit material in exchange for larger sums—sometimes in the hundreds of pounds.
Victims were promised substantial payments but rarely received them.
When payment issues arose, the scammers employed advanced tactics like creating fraudulent websites to sustain the deception.
Maguire had a prior sexual harm prevention order due to his involvement in making indecent images of children.
However, he violated this order, which led to his arrest in Rhyl after police discovered him using privacy-boosting browsers and creating aliases for the scam.
Authorities also found he had downloaded 63 indecent images of minors and had interacted with hacking communities to access social media accounts of victims to obtain private photographs.
Maguire admitted guilt before the magistrates, while Pendleton only confessed to his involvement a week prior to trial.
The court sentenced Maguire to two years and four months in prison, and Pendleton to two years, with both men subjected to lifelong restraining orders to prevent contact with the victims.
The judge emphasized that their actions were not just financial crimes but serious violations of personal privacy and dignity, causing considerable suffering to those affected.
