NORFOLK MAN JAILED FOR 15 YEARS FOR MULTIPLE RAPES
A Norfolk man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being found guilty of 12 charges of rape on a woman.Karl Shaw, 34, was convicted after raping the victim on two separate days in October last year.
He was sentenced at Norwich Crown Court to a 15-year jail term for the rapes, along with a two-month concurrent sentence for common assault, and was issued a sexual offence prevention order.
Shaw, who had no fixed address but was linked to Norwich Prison, had initially denied all 18 offences he was charged with at trial, which included 12 counts of rape on a single woman and assaulting a police officer during arrest.
The jury found him guilty of the 12 counts of rape and the assault, but not guilty of six other charges, including three counts of rape involving another woman.
During the sentencing, Judge Katharine Moore described Shaw as 'angry and aggressive' during his drunken attacks and remarked that he posed a risk to others.
Detective Sergeant Lee Diggins highlighted Shaw’s disregard for his victim, acknowledging her bravery in coming forward and giving evidence.
The case reflects Shaw’s repeated abuse and violent behavior, with the sentence seen as appropriate for the severity of his crimes.
