KARL MCCORMACK FROM ERDINGTON SENTENCED FOR THREATS AND HATE CAMPAIGN IN BIRMINGHAM
A woman who was once in a relationship with Karl McCormack, a 26-year-old man from Erdington, has come forward with serious allegations of harassment and threats that have caused her significant distress. The relationship, which lasted for four years, was characterized by volatility and ended in November of the previous year, after which the victim faced a relentless campaign of intimidation from McCormack.According to court reports, McCormack used social media platform Facebook to send threatening messages to his former partner. These messages included explicit threats such as, "put a bullet in her head" and "burn her house down," which were sent after she decided to end their relationship and publicly announced her pregnancy. The victim described feeling terrified by these messages, perceiving McCormack as being "out of control" and noting the persistent nature of his threats, which continued even after police had become involved.
The relationship had reached its breaking point when she was three months pregnant with a boy, and she refused McCormack’s pleas to reconcile. Prior to this, she had already received threats via phone calls and messages, which included threats to "wipe out" her and her family, prompting her to seek police assistance. Despite law enforcement intervention, McCormack persisted in his threatening behavior, making further threats to "smash her up" and continuing to send menacing messages on Facebook.
The court was informed that McCormack’s threats were not only persistent but also serious and damaging, significantly affecting the victim’s mental well-being. The severity of his actions was recognized by the court, which took into account the fear and distress experienced by the victim.
Judge Richard Bond sentenced McCormack to 15 months in prison for his campaign of hate and threats. Additionally, he was issued a five-year restraining order that prohibits him from making any contact with the victim. The prosecution emphasized that McCormack’s threats demonstrated a clear and deliberate intent to harm, with the victim feeling very frightened and believing that McCormack was "out of control." The case underscores the importance of addressing domestic threats and protecting victims from ongoing harassment and violence.
