MAN JAILED OVER ATTEMPTED RAPE OF TEENAGER
A man has received a prison sentence after attempting to sexually assault a teenager in a park located in Solihull. The incident occurred on June 6 of the previous year when Dago Williams aged, 22, engaged in conversation with a group of teenagers while traveling on a bus heading toward Chelmsley Wood.
He claimed to possess 'a lot of money' and subsequently added the group on Snapchat.
After disembarking the bus with the teenagers, Williams stole cans of alcoholic beverages from a nearby supermarket and offered them to the group.
Soon after, Williams and a 17-year-old girl from the group sat down on a bench in Meridian Park.
He attempted to kiss her, which she rejected.
He then went on to sexually assault her and made an attempt to rape her.
When the girl managed to get up, Williams punched her in the face and strangled her, causing her to fall.
He also threw her bag into nearby bushes.
The girl managed to escape, screaming and shouting for help, and ran to a friend's house before calling the police.
Authorities identified Williams through a detailed description provided by the girl and his Snapchat username, which he had shared.
He was subsequently arrested and charged with attempted rape, sexual assault, intentional strangulation, assault, and theft from a shop.
Williams, of Hampton Road, Erdington, admitted all charges at an earlier hearing.
On February 17, he was sentenced to nine years and six months in prison at Birmingham Crown Court.
