KAI WONG CAUGHT IN EXETER WITH CHILD RAPE VIDEOS AT GOLDEN POND RESTAURANT
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Exeter, police investigations led to the arrest of Kai Wong, a man previously associated with the Golden Pond restaurant located on the old A30 at Rockbeare, near Whimple. The arrest followed a raid on his residence, which was situated above the restaurant, after authorities traced him through online activity involving file sharing sites.
Wong, aged 40 and a father of three, was identified as a director of the restaurant, also known as the Oriental Promise.
Up until his arrest last summer, he was actively involved in managing the establishment.
Despite stepping down from his role and moving out of the property, his connection to the location and the ongoing investigation brought his actions into the spotlight.
The police raid was initiated in June based on intelligence reports that indicated illegal activity.
During the operation, officers found Wong having breakfast with his family at his flat.
Authorities seized multiple electronic devices, including computers and hard drives, which contained a horrifying collection of illegal content.
Among the 43 movies recovered, 31 were classified in the most severe category, depicting children as young as five being subjected to sexual abuse.
One particularly disturbing film included elements of sadism, featuring a young girl with her face covered by a cloth while being abused.
Wong was subsequently charged with three counts of making indecent images.
During his court appearance at Exeter Crown Court, he admitted to these charges and was sentenced to nine months in prison, suspended for two years.
Additionally, he was ordered to attend sex offender treatment programs facilitated by the probation service, sign the sex offenders register, and was placed under a sexual harm prevention order.
This order grants authorities the authority to monitor his internet activity to prevent further offenses.
In his sentencing remarks, Recorder Mr.
Jeremy Wright emphasized the severity of the crimes, stating, “The images you saw involved children who were suffering abuse and for whom the future will no doubt hold psychological problems.” He highlighted the aggravating factors, noting the vulnerability and young age of the victims involved in the videos.
Despite the gravity of the case, the judge acknowledged Wong’s otherwise good character, referencing his support for charity work, including fundraising efforts for Mind and organizing science fiction conventions at the restaurant.
Wong’s legal team and the court recognized his efforts to rehabilitate and the importance of providing him with help to prevent future offenses.
The case has raised serious concerns about child exploitation and the importance of vigilant law enforcement in protecting vulnerable victims from such heinous crimes.
