DANGEROUS PAEDOPHILE DAVID MORRIS AND TEACHER JULIE MORRIS FROM ST HELENS AND WIGAN SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE AND FILMING VILE RAPE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the communities of St Helens and Wigan, Julie Morris, a teacher and safeguarding lead at St George's Central Primary School in Tyldesley, and her partner David Morris, a 52-year-old mechanic from Eccleston, were found guilty of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse and exploitation of a young girl. The case, heard at Liverpool Crown Court, revealed a pattern of depravity that spanned months, with both individuals actively engaging in and supporting each other's sickening fantasies.
Julie Morris, aged 44, who held a responsible position within her school, was implicated in sending photographs of pupils to her boyfriend at his request.
These images, which were non-indecent, were shared despite her role in safeguarding children, raising serious questions about her judgment and integrity.
The court clarified that none of her offences were directly related to her employment, but her actions nonetheless betrayed her professional responsibilities.
During police interviews, Julie Morris admitted to her involvement but attempted to shift blame onto David Morris, claiming she was coerced out of fear that he would share explicit photos of her.
Prosecutors dismissed her claims, emphasizing that she was a willing participant in the abuse and shared the same depraved interests.
Her co-accused, David Morris, was also accused of repeatedly discussing his disturbing fantasies, including desires to film children and viewing them as 'eye candy.' Evidence presented in court included messages exchanged via WhatsApp, amounting to nearly 175,000 pages, which detailed their shared obsession with child exploitation.
Prosecutor John Wyn Williams highlighted that Julie once sent a photograph of children in fancy dress from her school, to which David responded with a disturbing comment: “Wow three possible one definitely.” On another occasion, David Morris expressed his interest in children he saw during a school trip, requesting more photographs of children in various outfits.
Julie responded by sending images of children, including a girl on her own, with David eagerly asking for more.
Judge Andrew Menary, QC, addressed the court, emphasizing the gravity of the offences given Julie Morris's role as a safeguarding lead.
He pointed out the shocking discovery of approximately 175,000 pages of messages exchanged between the couple, revealing their shared depravity.
The judge condemned their actions, stating that they found each other as 'soulmates' in their mutual engagement with child abuse, whether actively or passively.
Judge Menary dismissed Julie Morris's earlier claims of feeling 'forced' into participation, describing her as an enthusiastic participant who actively fed her partner’s perverted fantasies.
He condemned her for sending explicit images of children and her own pupils, despite her training and responsibilities to protect children from such harm.
The court heard that David Morris had expressed a desire to film children in public, including a four-year-old who had 'caught his eye,' and had spoken openly about his sick fantasies involving young girls.
When their crimes were uncovered, the couple attempted to evade arrest, fleeing in a campervan with £10,000 in cash.
They were eventually caught in the Lake District before they could escape further.
Julie Morris pleaded guilty to 18 sexual offences, including two counts of rape, while David Morris admitted to 34 offences, including seven counts of rape.
Judge Menary described both as 'dangerous' and emphasized the depths of human depravity involved.
He sentenced Julie Morris to 13 years and four months in prison, with an extended four-year license period.
David Morris received a sentence of 16 years, also with an extended four-year license.
The judge concluded by stating that both had lost their good names and careers due to their actions, which had profoundly betrayed the trust placed in them by society and the community of St Helens and Wigan.
