CARER JAILED FOR ABUSE OF ELDERLY PATIENT IN WALSALL
A caregiver named Julie Hamilton, age 53, residing on Hunts Lane in Willenhall, was secretly recorded mistreating an 88-year-old dementia patient named Winifred Stolarski at her residence in Walsall.
The recordings, taken by a colleague concerned about Ms Stolarski’s wellbeing, depicted Hamilton shouting at the elderly woman, force-feeding her, and stealing food.
Authorities reviewed 19 video clips from May and June 2014, which demonstrated Hamilton’s complete disrespect and lack of compassion towards her patient, regarding her as merely an inconvenience.
In one clip, Hamilton was seen pouring soup down the sink before signing documents claiming she had fed Ms Stolarski.
Although there was no physical violence or rough handling, police described her behavior as intentional neglect.
Hamilton pleaded guilty to one count of ill-treatment and wilful neglect, with a second charge kept on file.
She resigned after viewing the footage and expressed her disgust, but was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment at Wolverhampton Crown Court for her conduct.
