A man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after a series of violent and controlling acts against a woman, which ultimately resulted in her being raped and stabbed.
Gurwinder Singh, aged 36, engaged in years of abusive behavior that started with verbal insults and belittling, later escalating to physical assaults and stalking.
On May 6 last year, Singh made a violent attempt to kill the woman by stabbing her multiple times.
He broke into her home with a knife, issuing threats to kill her.
During the attack, she sustained stab wounds to her arm, chest, and stomach.
He then undressed her and committed a rape, continuously threatening her with death.
Law enforcement arrested Singh soon after on charges that included attempted murder and rape.
From Walsall, Singh was convicted earlier this year after a court trial.
This week, at Stafford Crown Court, he received his sentence, with the court stating that only a few millimeters had prevented her death.
