JOSHUA ROBSON FROM CRAMLINGTON SENTENCED FOR RAPE IN TEESSIDE COURT
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Cramlington, a man named Joshua Robson has been convicted and sentenced for a heinous sexual assault that took place in October 2018. The incident involved Robson preying upon an 18-year-old woman while she was asleep, an act that has left her suffering from severe emotional trauma, including nightmares and flashbacks that continue to haunt her to this day.According to court reports, the victim was asleep when Robson, who was residing at Esher Place in Cramlington, committed the assault. She only became aware of what had happened when she woke up in pain, at which point she realized she had been sexually assaulted. Shocked and distressed, she immediately reported the incident to the police, prompting a thorough investigation.
During the investigation, authorities arrested Robson and charged him with rape. Initially, Robson denied the allegations, attempting to dismiss the claims. However, during a trial at Newcastle Crown Court, the jury saw through his attempts to deny responsibility. After careful deliberation, they found him guilty of one count of rape. The verdict was delivered last month, marking a significant step in seeking justice for the victim.
In her victim impact statement, the woman described how the assault has profoundly changed her outlook on life. She expressed that she now feels as if her innocence has been stripped away, stating, “This has affected me severely and changed my perspective on life. I would have described myself as naïve before this happened, but now my head has been opened to the big bad world and I don’t trust anyone.” Her words underscore the lasting psychological scars left by the attack.
Judge Craig Hassall QC presided over the sentencing, which reflected the gravity of the crime. Robson was sentenced to five and a half years in prison. Under the terms of his sentence, he will serve half of that time behind bars before being eligible for release on licence. Additionally, Robson was subjected to a restraining order that will remain in effect until further notice, prohibiting him from approaching the victim or engaging in certain activities.
Furthermore, Robson was ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely, a measure designed to monitor his activities and prevent further harm. He was also required to pay a victim surcharge, contributing to support services for victims of sexual crimes. This case highlights the ongoing efforts of the justice system to hold offenders accountable and to provide some measure of closure for victims of such traumatic crimes.
