JOSHUA RAMIAH SENTENCED IN GUILDFORD AND TADWORTH FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE
Joshua Ramiah, a 27-year-old man with connections to Guildford and Tadworth, has been found guilty of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of a three-year-old girl. The conviction was reached after a rigorous week-long trial held at Guildford Crown Court, where the evidence against him was thoroughly examined and presented. The charges against Ramiah included two counts of raping a child under the age of 13, as well as two counts of sexual assault by touching. These disturbing offences first came to light in August 2021 when the young victim made alarming statements to a family member, prompting immediate concern and investigation. The child's disclosures led to Ramiah's arrest on August 23, 2021, marking the beginning of a detailed and extensive investigation by the Child Abuse Team.
During the investigation, authorities employed a range of forensic techniques, including analysis of digital devices, examination of phone data, and specialized interviews designed to uncover the full extent of Ramiah's actions. The evidence collected was compelling enough to secure a conviction, resulting in a sentence of 20 years in prison for the rapes. Additionally, Ramiah received a three-year sentence for each of the sexual assault charges, with all sentences to run concurrently. Beyond his imprisonment, he was subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and was registered as a sex offender, measures intended to prevent further harm and monitor his activities.
Detective Constable Nicola Deadman emphasized the gravity of the crime, stating, "Sexual abuse of a child is a horrific crime that can often have a devastating impact on its victims and their families. We take all reports of sexual abuse extremely seriously and the lengthy sentence handed to Ramiah by the Judge, as well as the Sexual Harm Prevention Order, will help to protect children from this predator. The process to get justice for abuse survivors can be lengthy but we will be there to ensure justice is carried out."
