MAN SENTENCED AFTER THREATENING EX-PARTNER AND PUSHING HER IN DOMESTIC INCIDENT
A man named Joshua Hopton, aged 29, went to his former partner’s address and threatened to kill her while their child was at home, a court heard.
Hopton was in a relationship with the woman until their separation on Mother’s Day last year.
On September 16 of the previous year, he visited her property at around 7am uninvited, demanding to see their son.
He pushed the woman twice and accused her of being in a relationship with another man.
As he was leaving, Hopton made threats to kill her and subsequently handed himself over to the police.
During a sentencing hearing at Swansea Crown Court, the recorder described his conduct as threatening throughout, with both himself and the situation escalated by the presence of children at the scene.
Hopton pleaded guilty to a threat to kill and was sentenced to 16 months of imprisonment, suspended for 18 months.
The court also ordered him to complete a 20-day rehabilitation program, perform 250 hours of unpaid work, and stay away from the victim with a restraining order until further notice.
An impact statement revealed the victim's feelings of being 'extremely nervous' and suffering from anxiety due to the ordeal.
