A jealous man who stamped on his former partner's face during a campaign of harassment has been jailed for 26 weeks.
Joseph Powell stalked the woman, sending her threatening messages despite having been made subject to a restraining order.
The 26-year-old told her he would 'walk away smiling' and claimed the police would 'let him get away with it' because of his history of mental health issues.
Powell, who had a previous conviction and was given a conditional discharge for criminal damage along with a restraining order, smashed a hole in her living room wall and threatened to smash her windows.
He then sent her a text saying police would 'let me walk away with a caution because of my mental history.' He continued to contact her, made minor contact, and on May 20, called and texted asking where she was.
When she lied, he threatened he was 'going to get it,' and later turned up at her house, smashing windows and hurling abuse.
He attacked her by punching her about 12 times, stamping on her face, and smashing her iPhone.
He also chased her with a broken chair leg with nails, smashing other items in her house.
Upon police arrival, he apologized and claimed to love her.
Powell pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm, two counts of breaching a restraining order, and two counts of criminal damage.
The court imposed a restraining order preventing contact for five years and jailed him for 26 weeks.
