JAILED NURSERY WORKER WHO KILLED BOYFRIEND AND FRIENDS IN CRASH WARNED

A nursery assistant imprisoned for causing a fatal high-speed collision that claimed the lives of her Dunfermline boyfriend and two of his friends has received a five-year cautionary marker on her professional record.

Jorja Colville, from Stirling, is currently serving a sentence of three years and ten months after being responsible for the deaths of Reece Williams, aged 23 from Dunfermline, Lewis Soden, aged 24 from Cambridgeshire, and Connor Page, aged 21 from Brecon, in a late-night accident near Dunmore in July 2024.

She pleaded guilty to causing their deaths through dangerous driving and was sentenced earlier this year, receiving a driving ban that lasts several years.

The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) has now determined that her ability to practice is compromised and has placed a five-year warning on her record under the children and young people's workers register.

Ms.

Colville, who has been registered as a nursery worker since 2021, continued working for 17 months following the crash without any concerns being raised about her conduct.

In its ruling, the SSSC described her actions as being on the “higher end of the scale in terms of seriousness” due to their fatal consequences and the profound emotional distress inflicted upon the victims’ families.

The regulator also found that she had breached the professional code, which requires social service workers to avoid placing individuals at unnecessary risk and to act in a manner that upholds their suitability both in and out of the workplace.

Despite this, the SSSC acknowledged that her offense was an isolated incident, that she has no prior convictions, and that she has expressed sincere remorse and understanding of her wrongdoing.

The panel concluded that her court-imposed prison sentence and lengthy driving ban already served to protect public interest, but it still deemed a formal warning necessary to uphold trust in the social services profession.
