Judge Michael Leeming delivered a stern verdict, stating that Masterson exploited the woman for his own sexual gratification. Masterson attempted to justify his behavior by claiming he felt 'powerless' during the encounter and alleged that the woman had instigated the contact after returning to the room without clothing. It was revealed that he had previously completed a vulnerability assessment, which advised caution regarding her behavior, yet he chose to ignore these guidelines.

After serving nearly two years on the police force, Masterson resigned in 2022. Following his resignation, he was placed on a police barred list, effectively preventing him from seeking employment within law enforcement again. The Independent Office for Police Conduct condemned his actions as 'appalling,' highlighting that he showed no remorse for his misconduct.
