MAN JAILED AFTER BITING EX-GIRLFRIEND AND HEADBUTTING SECURITY MEN
A man has been convicted and sentenced for a lengthy assault involving multiple incidents in Dublin, including a supermarket and a bus, where he bit his former partner twice and headbutted two security personnel.Jordan Boyle, aged 27, of Sheephill Green in Blanchardstown, pleaded guilty to five charges of assault causing harm across different locations within Dublin 15 on January 3 this year.
During a court session in Dublin’s Circuit Criminal Court on Wednesday, Boyle was sentenced to four years in prison, with the last 12 months suspended.
The court learned that Boyle had bitten his former girlfriend on her cheek and wrist, pulled her onto a bus, assaulted her physically, and issued threats against her life.
He also headbutted security guards at Supervalu in Ashtown near the Navan Road, who had attempted to stop his aggressive actions.
Those in court noted that Judge Orla Crowe described Boyle’s conduct as 'utterly flagrant and reprehensible', and characterized his actions as 'violent, abusive, insulting, humiliating and degrading.' She referenced the victim’s statement, which was read aloud in silence, describing how the assault had heavily affected her mental well-being, causing trauma, insecurity, and shame.
The judge said the woman experienced great fear during the attack.
Sergeant Eimear Hamill reported that the woman was injured multiple times and had to seek treatment at St Vincent’s Hospital twice.
It was revealed that Boyle and the woman were no longer a couple but had socialized the day prior and stayed at her apartment.
After an argument, Boyle ejected her from the property, prompting her to run across the street in fear.
Boyle followed her into the supermarket, where he bit her on the cheek when staff tried to intervene.
He also threatened her, yelling, 'If you don’t come, I’ll kill you.' The violence continued as Boyle headbutted two security guards and dragged the woman onto a bus, where he assaulted her, pulled her by her hair and clothes, and sat with her at the back while continuing to threaten her.
He threatened to harm her face and bit her on her right arm.
She disembarked at Main Street, Blanchardstown, ran into a nearby building, and called emergency services.
Boyle’s criminal history includes 29 previous convictions, such as theft, public order offenses, and damage to property.
The defence, led by Keith Spencer BL, acknowledged Boyle’s struggles with alcohol and drug dependency.
Boyle expressed remorse through a letter emphasizing his shame and disgust.
The lawyer explained that Boyle’s violent tendencies and addiction issues stem from a difficult background, including an abusive father who struggled with alcoholism, and starting cocaine use at age 15.
Despite completing a carpentry course and aiming to become an electrician, the court emphasized the severity of the assault, especially given its public setting and the biting involved.
While Boyle had begun efforts to tackle his addictions, Judge Crowe sentenced him to four years imprisonment, with the last 12 months suspended for two years, starting from January 9.
This sentence reflects the serious and repeated nature of the offenses, which involved significant physical violence and public disturbance.
