COLCHESTER SEX OFFENDER BREACHED ORDER BY DELETING WHATSAPP MESSAGES
A SEX offender who served time in prison for possessing a quarter of a million indecent images breached his sexual harm prevention order by deleting his WhatsApp history.
Jonathon Turkentine, 68, was jailed for a year in 2022 but always denied having a sexual interest in children.
At the time of his sentencing, Turkentine’s barrister told Ipswich Crown Court the defendant viewed the images and movies for "artistic reasons" because he was researching the "perfect female form".
As part of his sentence, Turkentine also received a ten-year sexual harm prevention order which prohibits him from deleting his internet and message history.
Court papers show he breached that order by deleting photographs on WhatsApp and using a setting which automatically deletes messages.
Turkentine, of Mersea Road, Colchester, appeared before Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court last week to admit one count of breaching the terms of a sexual harm prevention order.
Magistrates fined Turkentine £141 and ordered him to pay further costs of £110 to the Crown Prosecution Service.
He must also pay a victim surcharge of £56, meaning Turkentine was docked a total of £307 in fines and costs.
He has until December 3 to pay the amount to the fines office.
