CHEF JAILED FOR ASSAULTING GIRLFRIEND OVER XBOX DISPUTE
A chef named Jonathan Wiggins attacked his girlfriend after she took away his Xbox and threatened to sell it to cover his unpaid rent contributions. The incident occurred on February 11 this year, and Wiggins, 26, "completely snapped" during the argument centered around money, according to his victim.
She recounted that she felt "broken" after being assaulted in her own home.
Wiggins denied the assault charge, which was aggravated by involving his now ex-partner, but was found guilty at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.
He was ordered to pay a fine of £500, a £20 victim surcharge, and was given a three-year non-harassment order.
His victim expressed her discontent, stating, "I don’t feel like it’s justice.
I feel like I’ve wasted four years of my life.
He’s been fined and he’s still walking free because he was a first-time offender.
It doesn’t affect his life in any way but it’s really affected mine." During the trial, evidence was presented that Wiggins injured the woman by seizing her shoulders, pushing, and pulling her.
The court also viewed photos of injuries, including a large bruise on her thigh.
The woman, who called emergency services after a neighbor intervened, explained her motivation by saying, “I was going to sell his Xbox because he hadn’t paid me rent for two months, and that’s when he assaulted me.” She added, “It was a heat of the moment thing and I’ve always said that it was immature on my part but it’s still not an excuse for putting your hands on somebody.” The court was shown images of her injuries, and she told of her determination to speak out to protect others, saying, “I’m speaking out to protect other girls.
This was somebody that said right from the start that he would protect me but he didn’t.
I’m the most broken I’ve ever been in my life.
I just hope people now see him for who he really is.”
