STREATHAM MAN JAILED FOR MURDER AFTER STABBING GIRLFRIEND 29 TIMES OVER NEW RELATIONSHIP
Jonathan Tebbs, aged 46, was accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend, Kate Dixon, 29 times with a Swiss Army knife.The incident followed her meeting a new partner through a dating site aimed at Oxbridge graduates.
Court proceedings revealed that Tebbs exhibited possessiveness, controlling tendencies, and jealousy during their 12-year relationship, which began after they met on a Tube train.
Although there was no evidence of prior violence, Dixon was described as being 'fearful' of him, particularly when she attempted to end their relationship.
Prosecutor Gillian Etherton QC stated that Tebbs deliberately and forcefully stabbed Kate, later referring to his Swiss Army knife in police interviews.
The attacks primarily impacted her chest, arms, and legs, suggesting she was defending herself.
After the assault, Tebbs reportedly removed her clothes and calmly washed her bloodied body in the shower.
He then searched online for Oscar Wilde’s poem 'The Ballad of Reading Gaol,' which reflects on love and killing.
He also attempted to erase evidence by cleaning the scene and even wrote a will, indicating a methodical mindset after the murder.
Tebbs admitted to police but was convicted of murder, with his plea of diminished responsibility leading to a charge of manslaughter; however, the court upheld a murder verdict.
Witness testimony included previous threats Tebbs made about killing her four years earlier, and he was characterized as having an 'explosive temper' and being 'quite intimidating.' Despite her efforts to seek help, Dixon remained afraid of his reactions, and their relationship was marred by controlling and possessive behavior.
The trial is ongoing.
