PARTNER'S VIOLENT HEADBUTT LANDS HIM IN PRISON: A WOMAN’S BRAVE FIGHT FOR JUSTICE
This troubling incident involves Jonathan Landry, who violently assaulted his partner Lauren Queeley inside a busy pub in Porthcawl, Wales.CCTV footage captured Landry slamming his head into Lauren in the middle of the crowded venue, an act that resulted in her suffering a black eye that lasted for weeks.
Lauren, aged 33 at the time, bravely spoke out about her ordeal, describing how Landry had begun to exploit her vulnerability after they started dating in March of the previous year.
He would often compliment her appearance while telling her he shared her traumas and vulnerabilities, aiming to establish a deeper emotional connection.
Over time, Landry increased his drinking, which led to more frequent arguments and both verbal and physical abuse.
Lauren recounted how he would call her hurtful names, slap and push her, and then apologize, claiming his behavior was not that bad or only "a slap." The final assault occurred on March 29 this year when Landry refused to speak to Lauren and her friends at a pub, then disappeared for 45 minutes.
Upon his return, he called her a "psycho" and then headbutted her with such force that she was nearly knocked out, leading to a swollen face, bruising, and a suspected broken eye socket.
Lauren's friend walked her home, where they found Landry waiting outside, verbally abusive and demanding to come inside.
She called police, who reviewed CCTV footage and confirmed the assault, prompting her to seek hospital treatment for her injuries.
Landry’s attack was labeled a "football-style headbutt," and Lauren later submitted a victim impact statement to the court expressing her feelings of anger, betrayal, and heartbreak.
Landry, now 34, was found to have a criminal record with nine convictions for 14 offences, including previous assaulting a former partner.
During sentencing at Swansea Magistrates’ Court, he was imprisoned for 16 weeks and given a two-year restraining order preventing contact with Lauren.
Judge Charlotte Murphy emphasized that Landry did not demonstrate a realistic prospect of rehabilitation and noted his history of violence, which contributed to her decision to incarcerate him.
Lauren has since become an advocate for Clare’s Law, seeking to raise awareness about the importance of disclosing past abuse histories.
Her courage was highlighted as she shared her story publicly, emphasizing her journey of resilience and her fight for wider awareness of domestic abuse issues.
