Daniel Kiddier, aged 36, received a prison sentence of five years and three months after being convicted of 12 charges.Kiddier, residing in New Road, Porthcawl, was sentenced on Thursday (29 February) at Cardiff Crown Court.
Earlier in February, he had been found guilty at Newport Crown Court on 11 counts of controlling and coercive behavior and one count of assault causing actual bodily harm.
During the trial, the court was informed that he had repeatedly assaulted his former partner, including strikes with the back of a meat cleaver and punching her in the head after she attempted to leave their two-and-a-half-year abusive relationship.
The victim reported multiple incidents where she was strangled or pushed onto the floor, resulting in cuts, bruises, and swelling.
Detective Constable Tyler Rowland of South Wales Police stated: “Daniel Kiddier has been sentenced today for 12 domestic abuse offences.
I want to acknowledge the bravery of the victim in reporting these crimes and seeing the legal process through.
Experiencing coercive and controlling behavior significantly impacts victims physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Kiddier’s sentence of over five years demonstrates the seriousness with which South Wales Police and the courts treat domestic abuse.
I encourage anyone who has endured domestic abuse in any form to come forward and report it to us or contact Crimestoppers anonymously.”
