VIOLENT OFFENDER SENTENCED FOR STRANGULATION AND ASSAULT IN PORTHCAWL
A man named Ryan Creed, aged 26, was involved in a violent incident on a beach near Happy Valley Caravan Park in Porthcawl.He was accused of domestic violence, having strangled his girlfriend with two hands and spat at her multiple times.
The victim described the encounter as terrifying, noting a look in Creed's eyes that was 'terrifying'.
On August 17, Creed was seen walking along a busy road in an erratic manner, with glazed-over eyes.
Police were called to the scene where they found the defendant shouting and slurring his words.
The victim, crying and distressed, managed to knock on the police car and pleaded for help, telling officers she had been strangled.
Creed fled from the police but later confronted an officer, refusing to comply, and physically assaulted the officer with punches and attempted to headbutt him.
He also attempted to grab the officer's taser.
Officers used a taser on Creed when he tried to run away again, hitting him in the lower back.
He was found in possession of six cannabis buds.
Creed, who has a history of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and battery, admitted to charges including intentional strangulation, assault by beating, assaulting an emergency worker, and possession of cannabis.
During sentencing, it was revealed that Creed had a difficult childhood, was placed in care at age six, and diagnosed with ADHD, learning difficulties, and autism.
He had previously self-medicated with cocaine and cannabis but is now on medication and expressed regret for his actions.
The judge, Daniel Williams, sentenced Creed to two years in prison, with half to be served in custody and the remainder on licence.
