MAN JAILED FOR SEXUALLY ABUSING CHILDREN

A man aged 45 has received a 10-year prison sentence for sexually abusing children in the Elgin region.

Jonathan Hopson was convicted and subsequently sentenced at the High Court in Dundee on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

The verdict followed a trial held in May, which established his guilt.

The offenses included charges of rape and sexual assault committed against two young girls over a period spanning from 2008 to 2023.

Alongside his prison term, Hopson was ordered to serve an additional three years on licence.

He was also subject to a non-harassment order and was placed on the sex offenders register for an indefinite period.
