MANCHESTER MAN JAILED FOR FILMING AND ASSAULTING YOUNG WOMAN
A rapist who filmed himself attacking a 19-year-old woman in Greater Manchester has been jailed for 14 years.Jon Leaver, 23, from Mayfield Street, Atherton, planned to send the images taken on his mobile phone to his friends but was unaware he was being filmed by CCTV cameras.
Liverpool Crown Court heard Leaver broke his victim's jaw in two places and was convicted of rape and grievous bodily harm in August.
The victim said on Thursday: "This has totally changed my life." In a statement, she added: "I still have fears about stepping outside the house on my own.
I'm trying the best I can to get on with my life, but it is difficult and obviously I have a constant reminder with the injuries I have suffered." The attack happened in Leigh on 19 February after Leaver and his victim met at Barbarellas nightclub.
Leaver, who has a tattoo on his stomach featuring the disfigured face of a woman, kissed his victim inside the club before leaving to get taxis around 0150 BST.
He took her to a bus station, pushed her against a wall, and when she tried to stop him, he punched her unconscious.
He then used his phone to record himself performing a sex act on her.
He was disturbed by a passer-by but carried her into another back street and punched her again.
After being disturbed a second time, Leaver ran off, leaving her unconscious to be helped by a member of the public.
Judge David Boulton called the attack "abhorrent" and said: "The tattoo which you carry is disturbing and shows, in your adoption of the attitude towards that tattoo, a contempt for women and I consider that you are extremely dangerous to women.
The violence you used was extreme to the point of being sadistic and I wonder when I see the tattoo and what you did to that woman's face whether you were attempting to obliterate a face." Det Con Pete Morris of Greater Manchester Police said: "Leaver brutally raped her, leaving her in the street with horrific injuries.
He is evidently a danger to women and we are pleased that the sentence reflects the gravity of the offences.
The victim has been scarred for life at the hands of Leaver and I only hope that today's sentence will help her to move on and rebuild her life."
