JOHN ZAMLYNNY FROM THORNTON SENTENCED AFTER PAEDOPHILE HUNTER STING IN KIRKCALDY
A man from Thornton, John Zamlynny, has been formally sentenced at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court following his involvement in a disturbing online predatory scheme. Zamlynny, aged 75, was found guilty of engaging in inappropriate and sexual messaging with what he believed to be a 14-year-old girl. The case came to light after a paedophile hunter group, known as Groom Resisters Scotland, orchestrated a sting operation that exposed his intentions.According to court records, Zamlynny had initiated contact with a profile on the website Chatiw, believing he was communicating with a young girl named Alanna. Over a period, he repeatedly sent sexually explicit messages and shared his mobile phone number, continuing these exchanges on WhatsApp. Unbeknownst to him, the profile he was communicating with was a fake, created by members of the hunter group to catch individuals seeking to exploit minors.
Following the online exchanges, the hunter group arranged a sting operation. They traveled to Zamlynny’s hometown of Thornton to confront him directly. During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that Zamlynny had shown a willingness to engage in inappropriate conversations with someone he believed was a minor. The court was informed that when authorities traced him, he was assaulted by a local resident, an incident that added to the complexity of the case.
Police were called to the scene, and Zamlynny was taken into custody. During his police interview, he chose not to comment on the allegations. However, later, he confided in his wife, stating, “It’s ‘cause I’m bored when you’re at work.”
In court, Zamlynny admitted to the charges and was sentenced to a community payback order, which includes a 12-month supervision requirement. Additionally, he was placed on the sex offenders register, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and community groups to combat online exploitation and protect vulnerable minors from predatory behavior.
