CHILDISH MAN THROWS URINE-LIKE LIQUID OVER EX-PARTNER AND GETS SUSPENDED PRISON SENTENCE
A “childish” man named John Sumner, aged 62 and of Huyton, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court to be sentenced for assault and breach of a non-molestation order. He had previously been in a relationship that turned “toxic” largely due to issues with drinking.
Sumner committed a serious act by throwing a cup of liquid over his former partner, Cheryl Boydell, and told her it was urine.
The court described his actions as “horrible and degrading” for the victim.
Ms Boydell recalled the incident saying, “No words that can truly capture someone you once loved turn on you, he threw liquid in my face and I still struggle to understand how a human does that to another.” She was unsure if it was acid or something meant to blind her.
Sumner, who had a history of breaching court orders, was later arrested and claimed the liquid was an energy drink, though he had initially told authorities it was urine.
The court noted that he had four previous convictions for 11 offences, including breaches of non-molestation orders.
He pleaded guilty to common assault and breach of a non-molestation order.
The judge, Judge John McGarva, sentenced him to 20 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months, and ordered him to undertake 20 rehabilitation days, a six-month alcohol treatment program, and a two-year restraining order.
Additionally, Sumner was ordered to pay his victim £500.
The judge emphasized the seriousness of domestic offenses, particularly highlighting the impact on the victim’s emotional safety and her family’s fear, especially her autistic daughter.
