CHESTER MAN JAILED FOR CHILDHOOD RAPE OF BOY MORE THAN 20 YEARS AGO
A man named John Smith, aged 34 and from Chester, has been found guilty and sentenced for sexually abusing a young boy over two decades ago.The offences occurred when Smith was around 10 or 11 years old.
Despite denying the two counts of rape initially, he was convicted after a trial held at Manchester Crown Court.
Police reports indicated that Smith engaged in these offences multiple times and was conscious that his conduct was wrong, nevertheless continuing his offending.
The victim reported the abuse in April 2021, with the second incident occurring several years subsequent to the first.
At the time of sentencing, Smith was already serving time in prison for unrelated matters and received a prison term of 20 months for these offences.
A police spokesperson commended the victim’s bravery for coming forward and reiterated the force’s dedication to investigating and prosecuting such cases, regardless of how much time has passed.
Smith declined an interview and instead provided a written statement denying responsibility.
This case highlights the police’s resolve to deliver justice for crimes committed long ago.
