FORMER OFFICER JAILED AFTER POLICE INVESTIGATION
On Friday 16 January, former Detective Constable John Rigby appeared at Chester Crown Court after admitting to paying for sexual services from a teenage boy aged 16/17, as well as committing three counts of causing a computer to perform functions to gain unauthorised access to data or programs.An expedited Misconduct Hearing took place on Wednesday 17 December, presided over by Chief Constable Rob Carden, resulting in Rigby’s formal dismissal from the police force.
The investigation concluded that Rigby violated professional standards related to authority, respect, and courtesy, in addition to engaging in discreditable conduct.
Rigby was arrested on 6 November, and by the following day, he was charged, remanded into custody, and pleaded guilty on 7 November.
Today at Chester Crown Court, he was sentenced to two years for paying for the sexual services of a minor and an additional year for the computer misuse offences, to be served concurrently.
A restraining order was also issued to protect the victim.
