TEESSIDE SEX ABUSER JAILED FOR LIFE AFTER DECADE-LONG NIGHTMARE FOR VICTIMS
A sexual abuser who caused severe damage to the lives of three girls may spend the rest of his life in prison after being finally convicted.John Pearson, aged 62, manipulated, molested, and raped the girls many years ago, instilling fear through threats and convincing them they would not be believed.
They later came forward and saw him sentenced to over twenty years in prison.
Teesside’s top judge remarked that the abuse inflicted incalculable harm and misery.
Prosecutor Christopher Dunn stated, “The defendant’s sexual abuse of each of them has had catastrophic effects upon their lives, each of which has been irrevocably blighted by this abuse.
Their lives have been destroyed, psychologically destroyed.” Pearson exploited the girls' youth, naivety, and vulnerability, repeatedly touching them and forcing them to touch him, claiming it was normal.
One girl was so distressed she ran off and vomited.
He threatened one victim that if she told anyone, she would be taken away, blaming her for the abuse.
The trauma led her life into chaos, including rape.
Formerly residing in Redcar, Pearson, of Rosedale Crescent, Loftus, admitted 20 charges — including 11 of indecent assault, three of indecency with a child, two of child rape, and four other serious sexual offences — his first conviction.
The defendant previously attempted suicide and was sectioned at Roseberry Park mental health hospital when allegations surfaced decades later.
His defense argued he was now a changed man, describing him as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, though in poor health.
Presiding judge Simon Bourne-Arton QC stated the acts were incomprehensible and left severe psychological damage, emphasizing that Pearson's victims had not led normal lives while he appeared to live a seemingly normal one.
The judge sentenced him to 24 years in prison, emphasizing that these offenses are dreadful and have caused lasting damage, stating: "You’ve blighted their lives."
