UK MAN JAILED FOR STABBING BYSTANDER AFTER DOMESTIC DISPUTE
John Molloy, a 28-year-old man, was convicted and sentenced to five and a half years in prison for a violent assault that escalated from an earlier domestic incident. The court heard that Molloy was angry with his pregnant partner Leah Smith, who was three months pregnant with his child, over suspicions she was seeing other men and drinking while pregnant.
The incident occurred outside the Carrs Hotel Pub in Whiston, where Molloy assaulted Leah and was confronted by pub-goers.
CCTV footage captured the confrontation in which Molloy was punched and kicked; he then retaliated by stabbing bystander Mark Hooper with a Stanley knife, causing two injuries to his abdomen and back.
Mr.
Hooper required surgery to treat his wounds.
Molloy, who was intoxicated and angry, drove away from the scene but was later apprehended after crashing his car nearby.
The court heard that Molloy had admitted to wounding Mr.
Hooper with intent, assaulting Leah causing actual bodily harm, and possessing an offensive weapon.
His defense solicitor stated that Molloy was 'struggling to come to terms' with his actions and that he had written a letter of apology to Mr.
Hooper.
Additionally, he had worked on addressing his alcohol issues while in custody.
The judge sentenced Molloy to five years, emphasizing the severity of the violence and the danger posed by his actions.
