WOMAN STABBED HER BOYFRIEND AFTER VIOLENT ROW FUELED BY ALCOHOL AND RACIST ABUSE
A woman identified as Catherine Livesey was involved in a violent domestic incident following a night of heavy drinking.According to reports, Livesey stayed awake all night consuming vodka, which escalated into a fierce altercation with her boyfriend, Alan Golding.
During the fight, which was reportedly fueled by racist abuse and alcohol, Livesey was pushed to her limits and responded by arming herself with a small kitchen knife.
The court heard that Golding had previously subjected her to domestic violence and racist insults, which contributed to her state of distress.
The incident occurred when Golding approached Livesey with his fists clenched, after throwing objects and damaging property during the fight.
Livesey, fearing for her safety, called the police and claimed that Golding had lunged at her, prompting her to grab a knife in self-defence.
She then stabbed Golding in the neck, causing him to bleed heavily.
Golding left the scene but returned shortly afterward, and the pair resumed fighting, during which Livesey punched him and he struck her with a weapon, leaving her with a cut lip.
The police found the knife with dried blood on it, and Golding was taken to hospital with injuries including a punctured lung and a wound on the neck.
Although Golding suffered a collapsed lung, Livesey was only prosecuted for causing the injury to his neck.
Livesey admitted to wounding without intent and was sentenced to eight months in prison, with an expectation of imminent release.
Her defence argued she had been pushed to her limits due to ongoing domestic violence and racist abuse, and that her actions were out of character.
The judge noted that she had spent six months in custody and that her behaviour was driven by alcohol and provocation.
The court acknowledged that she believed she was about to be attacked when she struck, but emphasized the seriousness of carrying and using a knife.
Livesey expressed her desire to move forward with a restraining order against Golding and to start afresh after her release, emphasizing her good character and her previous clean record aside from minor offences in 2008.
