FORFAR MAN SENDS DISTURBING LETTERS FROM PRISON AFTER CHURCH AND SHOP STALKING
A Forfar menace who had been locked up for sending worrying letters to a woman at his church then mailed more concerning correspondence to a different woman from his prison cell.John Dunbar was remanded at Perth Prison after writing multiple letters, including one telling a woman he would not rape her.
However, from his cell, the 49-year-old began to stalk a local shop worker by sending her mail from jail.
The woman had not attended church for some time and collected them weeks later.
The first letter, found by the woman, was a three-page document from Dunbar, stating he would “never rape her” and “never force himself upon her.” Dunbar made more references to rape and attempted rape and stressed he would never lay a hand on her, calling her “honey suckle bear.” In his second letter, which was two pages long, he told her he thought she needed a massage.
He also referenced her birthday, which she never told him, and made derogatory comments about her partner, calling him “a big bully.” The letter signed “John xxx” also mentioned her partner was “a tiger.” These letters were written just three days after Dunbar was subject to a three-year community payback order (CPO) for an unconnected matter.
He was remanded and placed on the Sex Offenders Register.
He then began emailing a shop employee in Forfar, despite current bail conditions not to contact the women, and continued to send letters from HMP Perth, placing her in fear.
Dunbar made references to lips, legs, and his intention to send a birthday card, signing the letter “from John” with six kisses, and later wished her a Merry Christmas, also writing the lyrics of a Christmas song.
He previously admitted to communicating indecently with a woman at St Andrews Church in Arbroath on October 23 and stalking the shop worker from December 23 to 30.
His case was deferred for ongoing monitoring of his community order.
After several breaches of his CPO, and despite having learning difficulties, Dunbar remains on the Sex Offenders Register and is due back in court on August 17.
