JOHN DAVIES CAUGHT IN KIDDERMINSTER ROCK AREA FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES
In June 2010, a serious case involving the possession of indecent images of children came to light in the town of Kidderminster, specifically in the Rock area. John Davies, a 51-year-old resident of Kidderminster, was found to have downloaded and stored illicit material from the internet, which led to his arrest and subsequent court proceedings.Police officers executed a raid on Davies' residence located on Rectory Lane in Rock last year. During the search, they discovered that Davies' computer contained a total of 29 images classified as child pornography. Among these, three images were identified as being at the most severe level of depravity, according to the evidence presented at Worcester Crown Court.
In his police interview, Davies claimed that his initial intent was to search for adult pornography. However, he admitted that he became curious about child pornography after reading reports suggesting that some well-known individuals had viewed such material. Prosecutor Simon Phillips outlined that Davies had pleaded guilty to 10 counts of making indecent images of children, which significantly contributed to the case against him.
The court heard that the images were created in 2006, with Davies having paid for them using a credit card. Police seized two CDs containing the illicit movies on February 27 of the previous year, which served as crucial evidence in the case.
Judge John Cavell, presiding over the case, acknowledged that the sentencing guidelines for such offenses typically recommend a short prison sentence. However, he also noted that Davies had no prior criminal record, and that the public's safety could be better assured through alternative measures. As a result, the judge decided against immediate imprisonment.
Instead, Davies was sentenced to a three-year community order. This included a requirement to participate in a sex therapy program and a strict condition that he refrain from using computers. Additionally, he was ordered to avoid any contact with children under the age of 18 and to pay court costs amounting to £1,200. The court also mandated that Davies register as a sex offender for a period of five years.
Defence lawyer Abigail Nixon emphasized that Davies had only downloaded a small number of images and was under significant financial strain, owing approximately £25,000. She explained that Davies was struggling to repay his debts, which added context to his actions. Despite the leniency in sentencing, the court made it clear that Davies' actions had serious implications and that he would be monitored closely moving forward.
