JOHN BROMLEY SENTENCED TO 19 YEARS IN PRISON FOR CHILD RAPE IN READING

In June 2014, a man named John Bromley, aged 59 and of no fixed address, was sentenced to 19 years in prison after being found guilty of serious sexual offenses against a young child in Reading.

Bromley was convicted by a jury at Reading Crown Court on Monday, 12 May, of two counts of raping a child under 13, inciting or causing a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, and two counts of assaulting a child under 13 by penetration.

He was acquitted of one additional charge of sexual assault against the same victim.

The crimes took place at an address in Reading in May of the previous year.

As part of his sentence, Judge Wood also imposed a six-year license period, meaning Bromley will be under supervision after his release.

Under the law, Bromley will be required to serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for parole.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Sandra Beaumont from the Child Abuse Investigation Unit expressed her satisfaction with the verdict: “I am delighted with the sentence.

I hope the sentence brings some justice to the victim and their family.” She added, “I admire the strength of the victim and their family.

They have managed to support each other throughout the investigation and subsequent trial.” Beaumont also noted, “Bromley will now have a long time behind bars to reflect on his crimes, and will have to serve at least two thirds of the sentence before he can even be considered for parole.”
