JOHN ALEXANDER FROM PORT GLASGOW CONVICTED OF DOMESTIC ABUSE AND CHILD ASSAULTS
John Alexander, a 42-year-old resident of Port Glasgow, has been found guilty of a prolonged and disturbing campaign of domestic abuse that spanned over two and a half years.The court heard detailed accounts of his violent and controlling behavior towards his partner, which included physical assaults and emotional manipulation.
According to court reports, Alexander was responsible for physically grabbing his partner by the neck and dragging her along a corridor within their shared residence.
This act of violence was part of a pattern of aggressive behavior that also involved verbal abuse, with Alexander calling his partner derogatory names and exerting control over her movements and access to communication devices.
Specifically, he would unlawfully access her mobile phone without her permission, often challenging her when she attempted to change her password in an effort to regain some privacy and control over her personal information.
His interference extended to their shared laptop, where he monitored her usage time and restricted her access.
The court was also told that Alexander had on multiple occasions locked her out of their home, further demonstrating his controlling and abusive tendencies.
The Crown prosecutor described the physical altercation vividly, recounting how Alexander seized the woman by her neck and body, dragging her along a corridor while threatening her repeatedly.
These actions underscored the severity of his abusive conduct.
In addition to the domestic abuse charges, Alexander faced convictions related to child abuse.
In August 2022, he was found guilty of assaulting a child by throwing a drinks container over them.
Furthermore, in November 2023, he was convicted of behaving threateningly or abusively towards another child.
Following his convictions, the court imposed a series of penalties.
Alexander was ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid work within the next 12 months.
Additionally, restrictions were placed on his residence, limiting his access to his home address for the following four months.
The court proceedings took place at Greenock Sheriff Court, where the judge emphasized the seriousness of his actions and the need for appropriate punishment to prevent further harm.
