DARWEN MAN PICKED UP HIS GIRLFRIEND AND THREW HER - NOW HE'S IN JAIL
A man responsible for violence against his ex-partner by injuring her with a broken collarbone after lifting and dropping her has been sentenced to jail.During the proceedings at Preston Crown Court, prosecutor Daniel Bramhall explained that Joel Thompson assaulted his girlfriend in January 2022 while intoxicated after sharing a meal.
The attack occurred as Thompson argued with a friend on their way home.
When his partner expressed her wish not to walk with him, he lifted her up and then proceeded to attack her.
The woman claimed her arm hurt and suspected it might be broken.
Despite her injury, Thompson attempted to pull her along the street.
She received treatment for her collarbone fracture but did not report the assault until 2024, after Thompson attacked her again when she found him using drugs in a friend’s kitchen.
That night, she went home, put her child to sleep, and told Thompson she did not want him to use drugs there.
In response, Thompson insulted her with profanity and assaulted her, leaving her with carpet burns.
He also damaged a cat tree downstairs while she was locked in the bathroom and calling emergency services.
Thompson was taken into custody and denied domestic abuse allegations, but the woman told police about the two incidents and a prior occasion when he damaged her TV, wardrobe, and drawers, and cut off plugs from kitchen appliances when she tried to end their relationship.
In her victim impact statement, she expressed how she was once a confident and lively individual but feels that recovery will take years.
She developed anxiety, became socially withdrawn, and has lost trust in others.
Defense attorney Anthony Parkinson explained that at the time of the offenses, Thompson was battling a cocaine addiction.
He added that Thompson is now in a new relationship, which has been harmonious and without police interference, and that his current partner supported him through the court process.
