JOE DANIEL SCARABOROUGH AND LEEDS POLICE OFFICER CONVICTED OF STALKING AND BANNED FROM CONTACT

Joe Daniel, a former police officer with ties to North Yorkshire, has found himself at the center of a serious legal and professional scandal. Originally based in Scarborough and now residing in Leeds, Daniel was convicted of stalking his ex-partner, leading to a court-imposed fine and a restraining order that prohibits any form of contact.

During a disciplinary hearing, it was disclosed that Daniel had persistently harassed his former partner through numerous phone calls and messages, despite being under police bail conditions that explicitly forbade him from making any contact. The court proceedings revealed that on at least one occasion, Daniel falsely claimed to be engaged in police duties as a pretext to communicate with her. Further, he made phone calls where he impersonated a North Yorkshire Police officer conducting a 'welfare check,' a move that the woman immediately recognized as deceptive.

Daniel admitted to the court that he had been stalking her during the months of February and March of the same year. The Hull Magistrates Court responded by imposing an £800 fine, along with a £320 surcharge and £85 in legal costs. Additionally, he was issued an 18-month restraining order that explicitly forbids him from contacting his ex-partner in any capacity, whether directly or indirectly.

His misconduct did not go unnoticed by his former employer. North Yorkshire Police dismissed him for gross misconduct, effectively ending his career in law enforcement. North Yorkshire Deputy Chief Constable Scott Bisset emphasized the police force’s commitment to upholding integrity and professional standards, stating that Daniel’s actions were a stark deviation from these principles.

Following his arrest in November 2023, Daniel was suspended from duty. Despite bail restrictions, he made a distressing attempt to contact his ex-partner on March 28, calling her to apologize and suggest reconciliation. Later that day, he made another call, this time impersonating a police officer, which was traced back to a public phone near her residence.

In explaining his behavior, Daniel cited deteriorating mental health, attributing his actions to a life-changing injury he sustained in July 2023. His case highlights the serious consequences of stalking and the importance of maintaining professional standards within law enforcement agencies.
