WESTHOUGHTON WOMAN FALSELY TOLD POLICE EX CAME TO HOUSE WITH KNIFE
A woman named Jessica Nichols, aged 34, falsely told police three times that her ex-partner threatened her with a knife in September 2017.She claimed that he had arrived at her address with a "black-handled knife" and threatened to kill her.
These allegations were entirely false, as the victim had preemptively brought his mother along to record the visit to disprove any accusations.
Bolton Crown Court heard on July 24 that Nichols made three separate calls to police on the day in question.
The first call was on September 17, 2017, when she reported her ex-partner banging on her door.
About ten minutes later, she called again, claiming he was shouting that he was going to kill her.
She called a third time around thirty minutes later, saying that the victim had a "knife in his hand." Police arrived and arrested the victim.
Nichols then supported her claims in a statement to officers, despite evidence suggesting her account was false.
The victim’s mother provided video footage supporting his story, contradicting Nichols' allegations.
Nichols, of Hydrangea Close, Westhoughton, had a prior warning for a similar offense against the same victim.
She pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice and was sentenced to a 12-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months, along with 100 hours of unpaid work.
The judge, Jon Close, expressed concern over how false allegations could lead to victims not being believed and justice not being served, but took into account the time elapsed since the offense and the impact on Nichols' daughters, which favored her in sentencing.
