CONTROLLING HUSBAND ORDERED TO PAY £750 AND GIVEN 10-YEAR RESTRAINING ORDER
A controlling husband has been ordered to pay his ex-wife £750 in compensation and is banned from contacting her for 10 years.
Jeremy Pilkington, a 60-year-old marine engineer, was convicted at Exeter Crown Court for controlling and coercive behaviour towards his former wife.
The court was told that he was violent during their marriage, which lasted 20 years, and on one occasion he flicked her in the face and punched her, resulting in a black eye and bruising.
The court heard character references supporting Pilkington, who also played loud music in a shipping container to prevent her from sleeping and sprayed her with a hosepipe while she was in bed, leaving her with bruises.
Prosecutor Peter Coombe described her as being afraid of him and said he would blame her for the issues.
Defence lawyer Simon Burns acknowledged some responsibility on Pilkington's part, citing alcohol addiction issues and a volatile marriage.
Pilkington was working for his father’s marine business in Newton Abbot.
He admitted to controlling and coercive behaviour between 2015 and 2023.
Sentencing included 18 months in jail suspended for two years, a £750 compensation order, £400 court costs, and a 10-year restraining order.
