JEFFREY PEARTON FROM GRAVESEND SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN MAIDSTONE

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the Gravesend community, Jeffrey Pearton, a 58-year-old resident of Oak Road in Gravesend, has been sentenced to four years in prison for a series of heinous child sex offences spanning over three decades. The sentencing followed his appearance at Maidstone Crown Court on May 1, where the court heard a disturbing account of his long history of abusing young children.

According to the court proceedings, Pearton’s pattern of abuse began as early as 1974. The case was brought to light after one of his victims courageously came forward, prompting a thorough investigation that lasted two years. This investigation uncovered evidence of abuse inflicted upon eight additional victims, all of whom were under the age of 16 at the time of the offences. The youngest victim was only eight years old, highlighting the severity and depravity of Pearton’s actions.

During the trial, the jury was presented with detailed accounts of the abuse, and on March 31, they found Pearton guilty of multiple charges. These included seven counts of indecency with a child, five counts of indecent assault, and one count each of sexual activity with a child. Furthermore, he was convicted of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, sexually assaulting a child under 13, and causing a child under 13 to participate in sexual acts. Despite maintaining his innocence and denying all 21 charges, the jury deliberated for only two hours before reaching a verdict. They found him guilty of 16 of the charges.

In addition to his prison sentence, Pearton was subjected to a two-year license period, during which he will be monitored closely. He was also placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing oversight of his activities and restrictions to protect the community from further harm. The case has left a lasting impact on the residents of Gravesend, highlighting the importance of vigilance and the need for justice in cases of child abuse.
