JEFFREY MARTIN FROM CAITHNESS JAILED FOR SEX OFFENCES AND COURT ORDER VIOLATION
In December 2006, Jeffrey Martin, a man with a troubling history of sexual offences, was sentenced to six months in prison by Wick Sheriff Court for violating a court order that prohibited him from approaching children.The court proceedings revealed that Martin, aged 59, had shown a blatant disregard for the legal restrictions placed upon him, as he refused to participate in any form of counselling or therapy aimed at addressing his behaviour.
His arrest followed an incident where he was found socialising with a 15-year-old girl at his residence in Bower, a village within Caithness.
This act was a direct breach of the interim Sexual Offences Prevention Order that had been previously imposed on him.
The order was issued at Inverness Sheriff Court on October 17, and its purpose was to prevent Martin from engaging in any contact with minors, especially young girls.
Jeffrey Martin had already been convicted of serious sexual offences against young girls in the past.
His breaches of legal restrictions included not only the violation of the court order but also breaching bail conditions.
His criminal record is marked by two prior convictions for serious sexual offences, which underscores the severity of his misconduct.
As part of his sentencing, Martin was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for a period of seven years, a measure designed to monitor and restrict his activities to protect the community.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about the management and supervision of individuals with a history of sexual offences, especially those who continue to flout legal restrictions and pose a risk to minors in the Caithness area.
