CRAWLEY MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL MURDER OF LOVER
A man named Jayesh Gobar has received a life sentence with a minimum term of 27 years after being convicted of murdering his partner, Nelly Myers, at her residence in Rotherfield, East Sussex.During the trial, it was revealed that Gobar, aged 36, carried out a severe and sustained assault on Myers following her refusal to provide him with money to support his drug dependency.
Her Honour Judge Christine Laing QC characterized the attack as 'a prolonged and savage assault,' noting that 'the terror and trauma of her final hour are beyond comprehension.' Myers, aged 58, who was employed as a customer service host for British Airways at Gatwick, suffered extensive injuries, including 23 fractured ribs and a traumatic brain injury comparable to a high-impact crash.
The judge commented that Gobar displayed 'not a hint of remorse,' and described Myers' personality as 'warm, loving, and passionate.' She expressed doubt that Gobar ever cared for her genuinely, criticizing him for using Myers' kindness for personal gain.
The court depicted her last moments as harrowing, with a 'clump of her hair found in the hallway, torn from her head as she attempted to escape.' Notably, Gobar was released from prison shortly before the murder, having served time for an earlier violent robbery.
The sentence reflects the court’s acknowledgment of the brutality involved, and Myers' family expressed deep sorrow, with her son James Myers stating that her absence has created an 'unfillable void.'
