SWINDON MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL ASSAULT CAUSING GRIEVOUS BODILY HARM
A domestic abuser named Jay May from Swindon, who has a history of violence against former partners, has been sentenced following a brutal assault.According to reports, May appeared in Swindon Crown Court after pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm without intent.
The incident involved a confrontation with his latest victim, Caitlin Evans, which escalated when he punched her in the face after she activated a panic alarm.
This punch resulted in her losing two teeth, while two other teeth, including one with a fractured root, had to be professionally extracted by a dentist.
The assault was witnessed by a four-year-old, and police subsequently arrested May on January 21, 2024.
Evans recounted that May had sent threatening messages and took her phone at 1 am.
She explained that May claimed he pushed her with one hand during an argument and expressed remorse, stating he did not mean to cause such harm and that it was a panic response.
May has an extensive criminal record with 11 convictions for 27 offenses, predominantly violent crimes such as battery, common assault, assaulting emergency workers, and causing actual bodily harm, including one robbery that resulted in jail time.
Despite his lawyer proposing rehabilitation programs, Judge Jason Taylor sentenced May to 20 months in prison, citing the severity of the attack and the danger posed to the public as reasons for the sentence.
The court also highlighted that any hope for reform was overshadowed by the seriousness of the crime.
