JAY JOHN SCOTT FROM SELKIRK SENTENCED FOR MULTIPLE OFFENSES INCLUDING SEXUAL ASSAULT AND WEAPONS CHARGES
Jay John Scott, a 26-year-old man with connections to Hawick but currently residing in Selkirk, has been found guilty of a series of serious criminal offenses.The charges against him include a sexual assault that took place at a flat in the Borders region.
Scott admitted to the assault, which occurred on October 8, 2022, and his guilty plea was entered during proceedings at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.
In addition to the sexual assault, Scott faced a total of 14 charges encompassing a broad range of criminal behavior.
These included failing to notify the police of his change of address within the three-day period mandated by the Sexual Offences Act, a violation that underscores his disregard for legal obligations related to sex offender registration.
He was also convicted of possessing a bladed article, which posed a threat to public safety, and of assaulting police officers during an incident, further demonstrating his confrontational conduct.
Other charges included obstructing law enforcement officers in the execution of their duties, engaging in threatening or abusive behavior, breaching the peace, and violating bail conditions that had been previously set.
The court's sentencing reflected the severity of his actions, with Scott receiving a total prison term of 673 days, which is nearly two years behind bars.
Furthermore, as part of his punishment and to protect the community, Scott's name has been entered onto the sex offenders register for a period of seven years.
