JAVED KHALIQ FROM CRUMPSALL SENTENCED AFTER THREATENING LITTLE GIRL IN MANCHESTER

In September 2012, a disturbing incident unfolded involving Javed Khaliq, a man residing in Crumpsall, Manchester, who was involved in a series of alarming and threatening actions targeting a young girl and her mother. The case, which was heard at Teesside Crown Court, revealed a pattern of violent and intimidating behavior that left the community and the victim’s family in shock.

Khaliq, aged 33 at the time, was found to have become highly agitated and aggressive following a heavy intake of vodka. His erratic state of mind led him to make a staggering 62 phone calls to the mother of the girl within a span of just three hours. During these calls, Khaliq issued a series of lurid and menacing threats, including explicit statements about harming the child. The court heard that he had snatched the girl, who was only three years old, and then proceeded to threaten her life in a manner that was both terrifying and deeply concerning.

Prosecutor John Gillette described the chilling exchanges, noting that Khaliq told the distressed mother, “You’re never going to see your daughter again. The next time you see her, she’ll be in a body bag with me.” He further added, “The only person who’s going to see me and your daughter is God.” At one point, Khaliq put the young girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, on the line and coerced her into swearing and insulting her mother. The court was told that he later told the mother to “Say goodbye to your daughter,” then proceeded to count down from five to one before abruptly hanging up the phone.

Khaliq, who was living in the Manchester area at the time, admitted to charges of making threats to kill and cruelty to a child. In addition to these charges, he also pleaded guilty to possessing a Class B drug, cannabis, with intent to supply, as well as possession of cocaine. Authorities found him in possession of 87.1 grams of skunk cannabis, less than one gram of cocaine, and an alleged “dealer’s list” at his residence during a raid on September 21 of the previous year.

Khaliq’s criminal history includes previous convictions for sexual assault and cannabis production, indicating a pattern of concerning behavior. His defense lawyer, Duncan McReddie, acknowledged that Khaliq had taken responsibility early on and expressed remorse, offering apologies to the mother in court. McReddie explained that Khaliq could not fully explain his sudden outburst other than attributing it to alcohol consumption. He also noted that Khaliq had been a long-term cannabis user, which had contributed to a cycle of debt and small-scale drug dealing among his circle of friends.

Judge Howard Crowson addressed the court, emphasizing the seriousness of the threats made by Khaliq. He remarked, “The threats you made were taken very seriously. Perhaps you can imagine what effect that has on a mother.” Recognizing the gravity of the case, the judge sentenced Khaliq to one year in prison and imposed a lifelong ban on working with children. Khaliq was ordered to serve his sentence at a facility in Manchester, and the court made it clear that he would never be permitted to work with minors again, reflecting the severity of his actions and the potential risk to the community.
