NORTH HERTS 'MONSTER' JASPER THOMPSON SENT TO PRISON FOR STRANGLING YOUNG MUM IN FRONT OF HER CHILDREN
A man from North Herts has received a prison sentence exceeding two and a half years after being convicted of breaching a suspended sentence and committing a domestic assault that left his victim fearing for her life.During a court hearing at St Albans Crown Court, it was revealed that 28-year-old Jasper Thompson, who has no permanent address in Letchworth Garden City, was intoxicated when he threatened to cut his partner's face with a knife and to kill her.
He also attempted to strangle her in the presence of her two children on December 29 the previous year.
Thompson admitted to causing actual bodily harm (ABH) and was handed a 19-month prison term.
Cema Miah, an officer from the Domestic Abuse and Safeguarding Investigation Unit (DAISU), described the incident: "The abuse went on for hours that night and culminated with Thomson putting his hands around her neck and squeezing until his partner was unable to breathe.
He behaved like a monster and only stopped when her children came downstairs having witnessed the assault." She continued: "Despite initially supporting a police investigation, the victim understandably felt that she wasn't able to – but despite this, we presented overwhelming evidence to the court about Thomson's volatile and frightening behaviour.
He was also given a five-year restraining order to further safeguard the victim." Miah also noted that although the victim initially supported police action, she later felt unable to continue cooperating.
However, police presented substantial evidence in court indicating Thomson's unpredictable and frightening conduct.
As part of the sentence, he was also issued a five-year restraining order to protect the victim.
Furthermore, Thompson received an additional 12 months in prison, to run consecutively, after admitting to breaching a previous suspended sentence for possessing a knife or sharp object in a public place and for assaulting emergency workers on two occasions in May 2021.
Thompson's sentencing for both offenses occurred on March 23.
Detective Inspector Claire Richardson-Wabe highlighted the role of specialized officers: "We have a dedicated team to assist those affected by domestic abuse, whether physical, emotional, financial, or psychological.
Our collaboration with partner agencies aims to ensure victims are protected from such unacceptable and unpredictable behavior."
