LETCHWORTH MAN JAILED FOR ATTEMPTED SEXUAL ASSAULT AND RAPE
A man named Adam Depra, aged 30 without a permanent address in Letchworth, has been sentenced to nine years in prison following a conviction for attempted sexual assault.Depra was known to the woman he attacked and had earlier provided her with a lift home that day.
When he requested to visit her home, she refused, but due to his persistent pleas for help, she allowed him to stay.
The pair consumed alcohol, after which the woman felt increasingly dizzy.
Despite her repeated requests for him to leave, Depra refused.
As she began vomiting heavily during a medical episode, he forcibly moved her onto the bed, undressed her, and attempted to rape her, despite her protests.
The victim reported the attack to the police, leading to Depra’s arrest and subsequent trial.
In January, a jury found him guilty, and he was sentenced to nine years in prison along with lifetime registration as a sex offender.
After serving his sentence, Depra will be deported.
On the same court date, May 3, he also pleaded guilty to an unrelated assault in Stevenage from September 2020 and received an additional six-month sentence to run consecutively.
Detective Laura Harrison of the Sexual Offences Investigation Team praised the victim’s bravery and stated: “Throughout the trial, Depra denied attempting to rape the victim and showed no remorse.”
