DERBY MAN GETS OFF SCOT-FREE DESPITE PREGNANC AND HUGE AGE GAP
A man named Jason Singh, aged 23, formerly of Tyseley in Birmingham and now residing on Warner Street in Derby, was involved in a case where he met an underage girl via Facebook.
The girl initially claimed to be 16 but later disclosed she was actually 14.
Singh, who was 21 at the time, subsequently impregnated her.
Although Singh breached a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and was issued with a child abduction notice prohibiting contact with the girl, he had previously complied with a deferred sentence which included not contacting her, allowing him to avoid immediate jail.
At Birmingham Crown Court, Singh was sentenced to 20 months suspended for 18 months, along with 60 hours of unpaid work and 30 days of rehabilitation activity.
The court highlighted that Singh met the girl on social media, where he pursued a sexual relationship with her.
Judge Dean Kershaw remarked, "This is not a case of it being non-consensual.
But this was a child, people of that age don't know what full consent is." Singh had breached the SHPO by engaging in sexual activity with her.
The judge addressed Singh directly, emphasizing the seriousness of the breach and the large age gap, stating, "Someone your age, 21 at the time, who has got a 14/15-year-old girl pregnant is utterly disgraceful.
Your family should be disgusted with you and in my view you should be disgusted with yourself." The judge acknowledged that Singh had "groomed" the girl, who lacked the full capacity to consent due to her age.
Despite the breach, Singh was noted to be leading a decent life, working, and staying away from the girl as per the terms of his sentence.
The court imposed a five-year SHPO until 2028, banning him from unsupervised contact with anyone under 16.
