SEX OFFENDER LEFT VICTIM FEELING 'DISGUSTED AND USED'
A Bradford man has received a six-and-a-half-year prison sentence for serious sexual offences.
At Bradford Crown Court, it was detailed that Jason Newall’s assault on his victim involved strangulation, slashing with a blade, and threats.
The victim later engaged in self-harming behavior and suffered from depression, describing herself in a statement as feeling "disgusting and used." The court found that she had suffered extensive psychological damage.
The 26-year-old, formerly from Holme Wood in Bradford, will also face a lifetime requirement to register as a sex offender.
Authorities found a mobile phone video showing Newall having sex with his victim.
The court heard that Newall, who was appearing via video link from HMP Leeds, initially denied responsibility, crafting an intricate excuse.
After a trial was halted, he changed his plea to guilty during a scheduled second trial.
In his mitigation, the court was told that Newall now displays genuine remorse.
Judge Colin Burn sentenced him to 78 months in prison but noted that he had already spent approximately three years and one month in detention.
He told Newall: “You will have some two months to serve and then be released on licence.”
